about

With an array of hardware driven breakbeat, electro & techno jams, Danvers drops his debut LP, “Gently Ascending” on Fantastic Voyage.

Danvers (½ of Kassian) took a long break from solo productions during covid. Fortunately, a spark of inspiration was lit with the help of his hardware studio as he set out to record a series of live jams, limited by the equipment at his disposal. “Gently Ascending” features 9 of these jams, all of which can be performed in Danvers’ new live hardware set. He notes his focus on randomisation and getting the hardware to ‘sing’ by itself using LFO’s & complex polyrhythms.

Danvers explains how even the title of the album relates to a specific technical approach he took, “All of the tracks have an upwards barberpole phase on the main sounds (sometimes it’s super prominent and sometimes it’s more buried in the mix). This makes all the tracks sound like they’re gliding upwards… It turns tracks that might otherwise be considered pretty heavy or aggressive and turns them into something more ethereal and dreamy.”

While Gently Ascending is steeped in technical intricacy, this eclectic array of club tracks are meant for the dance floor. As you might imagine, these songs will get people moving and lift the spirits of ravers everywhere.
